New Boiler Upgrade in Sutton Coldfield
The Quality Jumps out at You
Whenever I receive a phone call, email or text message and it starts with “hello you have been recommended to me by so and so” it’s like music to my ears, especially when it comes to having new boiler installation carried out.
We all know that customer referrals are the lifeblood of any business and a sure-fire way of getting loyal customers who if treated right will employ your services for years to come.
The next best sentence normally involves “I am looking at having the Viessmann 200-w range with the weather compensation”. Now there are a lot of really good new boilers out there, one for most budgets and specific requirements. However in my humble opinion the Viessmann boiler is right up there when it
comes to design and innovation.
I remember first being introduced to Viessmann boilers and the concept of weather compensation and thinking “wow, why don’t we all have this technology installed in our homes”. Like all things made in Germany the quality jumps out at you, and after visiting Viessmann HQ in Allendorf for a 2-day tour back
in 2015 it was abundantly clear why this was the standard in Germany and has been for a long time.
Viessmann 200-w range
The technology they have and are utilizing is cutting edge, not surprising when they spend 50 million pounds a year on research and development.
From bio digesters to heat and energy extracted from ice. Heating smart homes linked to windows opening and door handles to adjust boiler output for maximum efficiency.
It really blew my mind and I’ve been a big advocate of their products ever since.
This particular job was the last one I looked at pre lockdown and unfortunately was postponed amidst the Covid-19 pandemic until the end of July.
In a nutshell the customer had had an extension done and the old boiler was relocated to the garage with the cylinder and tanks in the loft. The problem was that the pipe work was never extended or connected correctly and subsequently the heating and hot water would only ever work together and not independently of one another.
They had put off upgrading the boiler at the time, but 12 months down the line enough was enough.
The water pressure wasn’t the best, so a 30kw combination boiler with 11.8 lpm was the best option installed in the same location in the garage. The heating system had already been converted to a sealed system so I had no worries about the extra pressure on some of the old radiators, and all other pipes were in the right area barring the hot feed, luckily the utility room was only 2 metres away so all in all a straight forward conversion.

Whenever I am quoting for the Viessmann 200-w range I am mindful that people don’t fully understand weather compensation, so when I tell them that it does not have a room thermostat the concept becomes a very different proposition.
On this occasion I was able to send a link to a couple of YouTube videos of exactly what it is and how it works, and the real bonus is that it can connect to your smart
device straight out the box with no extra receiver or thermostat required.
The customer wanted the work carried out when the family was on holiday in Devon, so after picking up the keys on the Friday and clarifying exactly what will happen, I prepared the materials for a Monday morning delivery slot.
Arriving on site at 8am and going through my normal routine of protecting the home, isolation of the water supply, and testing the gas supply which on this occasion had a gas leak (not surprising when looking at how the old boiler had been installed). As the gas meter was in the garage and only about 7m
away from the boiler I decided it was easier to install a new gas pipe.
Draining of the heating system is next followed by the tanks and cylinder ready for removal and freeing up a big space for storage. Once the old boiler and cylinder is removed, I can then reconfigure the heating pipes to work with the new boiler.
By the time I had done all this the new boiler arrived and as is always the way the heavens opened whilst we carried the boiler inside the garage.
After a quick lunch break the new boiler was fixed to the wall and the pipe work could start to be connected. A little bit of alteration to accommodate the expansion vessel, filter and scale reducer and by the end of day 1 we were almost ready to fill and test everything.
New Boiler upgrade in Sutton Coldfield – Day 2
Day 2 was going to be installing the new gas pipe and fitting the flue, fitting the outdoor sensor, connect the condensate pipe and get ready for flushing the system using the magna cleanse filters and vibration tool.
Once the system has been cleaned and inhibitor added it was time to commission the boiler and connect it to the internet.
Now with most smart controls you either have a gateway to plug in, and/or a receiver to wire in, not with these boilers. It is all built in, so all you need to do is turn it on in the settings, download the vicare app and scan the QR code and within 5 minutes it’s all setup.
To conclude, as far as upgrades go this one was a dream and if all new boiler installations were like this I’d be a happy little gas engineer.
The new Viessmann 200-w range are my favourite boiler and I look forward to the next one I install.
